Responsible for all aspects of the packaging, code dates, seals, weights, metal detectors, the running of the packaging machinery, assigning the packers work, keeping the room clean and orderly and the overall operation of the packing room.
Be clean and make sure your crew is dressed per rules.
Be in your work area on time and receive any instructions needed from the foreperson from the preceding shift. At the end of the shift, give instructions to the next foreperson.
Make sure your crew are at their respective work positions at the start of the shift and know their work assignments.
Physically do the jobs that the packers do as well as the foreperson's own unique responsibilities.
Keep an up-to-date notebook to refer to daily. Company communications relative to the various packing jobs and other plant procedures should be kept in the notebook.
Must be willing to work all three shifts.
Must be willing and able to speak and listen to personnel from all departments.
Required to call coworkers on the telephone to ask questions, to explain situations, and get fill in help if a person reports off for production or packing work.
Leave detailed written messages for coworkers.
Fill out various production-related forms on a daily basis.
Instruct personnel in the packing department.
Responsible for the quality and integrity of all products packed during the shift such as quality, package quality, code dates, seals, labels, weights, and carton taping.
Evaluate whether each job is being done properly. Rectify any incorrect situation.
Establish an environment of harmony and fairness.
Schedule authorized breaks for their crew.
Responsible for cleaning and putting away equipment, containers, tables, and work areas that are taken out of service during a changeover.
Label with date, time, shift, and reason un-packable product is not acceptable.
Change formers on bag makers.
Put rolls of film on machines and load poly bags.
Know all aspects of the baggers and weighers including setting up, calibrating, zeroing, cleaning, and trouble shooting.
Know how to properly and safely turn on and off all conveyors, diverters, packing machines, weighers, metal detectors, and air valves
Responsible for setting conveyors and diverters so that product travels from baking equipment to proper packing equipment.
Plan ahead so that film, code date tape, carton tape, cartons, bags do not run out causing down time and lost production.
Receive forklift training and become certified in forklift operation.
Must be willing to accept training from various personnel. The shifts and days of training will be determined on a case by case basis.
Must train packing room personnel including temporary help.
Must be able to operate computerized equipment.
Must make sure that all product and packaging are handled and stored in a sanitary manner so that product is safe for human consumption including delivering product to proper location in warehouse and store warehouse.
Responsible for maintaining proper time cards for all packing personnel including temporary help.
Must review production sheets to determine what supplies and equipment will be needed for their shift and/or for the next shift.
Heavy lifting will be required.
The foreperson must operate pallet jacks and rolling carts.
Bring in and make up cartons and caddies.
Take trash, filled trash cartons, and recyclables to trash room and put in proper vessels or storage area.
Bring in proper skids as required for production.
Cleaning and organizing the packing room work areas and equipment daily.
Grind, weigh, and pack.
Keep current on the master cleaning schedule.
Be on safety committee when requested.
Required to fill out reports, write notes, and make drawings with legible and clear handwriting.
Fill out all log books and paper work requested by management as necessary.
Assist in any other way requested by management.
Help mentally or physically wherever and whenever necessary to help maintain a smooth and profitable operation of ongoing business.
Required to follow both written and verbal instructions from management as precisely and effectively as possible.
